4-H Caucus Co-Chairs Praise Senate Passage of Resolution Supporting the Designation of National 4-H Week

WASHINGTON – The co-chairs of the Senate 4-H Caucus, U.S. Senators Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) and John Boozman (R-AR), applauded Senate adoption of their resolution supporting the designation of “National 4-H Week.”

The resolution, introduced by Stabenow and Boozman, supports the designation of October 1 through October 7, 2023 as “National 4-H Week;” recognizes the important role of 4-H in youth development and education; and encourages all citizens to recognize 4-H for the significant impact the organization and members have made and continue to make by empowering young people with the skills needed to lead for a lifetime.

“As a former 4-H’er myself, I know that 4-H empowers young people to thrive in their communities and grow into future leaders through hands-on health, science, agriculture, and civic engagement projects,” said Chairwoman Stabenow. “In Michigan, it is the largest youth development organization, and its positive impact on young people across the country cannot be understated. I’m glad that my colleagues came together to recognize 4-H Week and the power of young people to change the world.”

“I saw firsthand what a tremendous impact 4-H has on young people while watching my three daughters get so much out of the experience while growing up. They were very active 4-H members and state record book winners. Next to church, there was probably no bigger influence for them than 4-H. That’s why I praise 4-H, and encourage young people to join, at every opportunity. I want them to have same positive experience in their lives,” said Ranking Member Boozman. “National 4-H Week shines a spotlight on the organization’s efforts to help shape the next generation of leaders, and in turn, helps increase the number of young people participating in 4-H.”

“This year’s theme for National 4-H Week is ‘I Love 4-H,’ reminding us that every child has valuable strengths and real influence to improve the world around us,” said Jill Bramble, President and CEO, National 4-H Council. “We are grateful to Senators Stabenow and Boozman for shining a light on the life-changing power of 4-H. This resolution raises national awareness for 4-H, attracting more adult mentors and the next generation of leaders.”

4-H, the youth development program of the Cooperative Extension System of land-grant universities, is the largest youth development organization in the nation, supporting nearly six million young people across the country. The organization provides experiences for young people to learn through hands-on projects in the important areas of health, science, agriculture and civic engagement.

Stabenow and Boozman were joined in introducing the resolution by the following 32 senators: Sens. John Barrasso (R-WY), Mike Braun (R-IN), Sherrod Brown (D-OH), Susan Collins (R-ME), Tom Cotton (R-AR), Mike Crapo (R-ID), Steve Daines (R-MT), Richard Durbin (D-IL), Joni Ernst (R-IA), Deb Fischer (R-NE), Chuck Grassley (R-IA), Martin Heinrich (D-NM), John Hoeven (R-ND), Cindy Hyde-Smith (R-MS), John Kennedy (R-LA), Angus King (I-ME), Amy Klobuchar (D-MN), James Lankford (R-OK), Ben Ray Lujan (D-NM), Cynthia Lummis (R-WY), Joe Manchin (D-WV), Roger Marshall (R-KS), Pete Ricketts (R-NE), James Risch (R-ID), Mike Rounds (R-SD), Rick Scott (R-FL), Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH), Tina Smith (D-MN), Thom Tillis (R-NC), Raphael Warnock (D-GA), Roger Wicker (R-MS) and Todd Young (R-IN).
