WASHINGTON – U.S. Senators Debbie Stabenow (D-Mich.), Chairwoman of the U.S. Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry, and John Boozman (R-Ark.), Ranking Member, today announced that the U.S. Senate confirmed Janie Hipp by voice vote to serve as General Counsel for the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
“Throughout the process, Janie proved she is an exceptional candidate to lead the Office of General Counsel at USDA,” said Chairwoman Stabenow. “Her experience and her leadership have more than prepared her for the tough work ahead at the Department. I’m so happy to see my colleagues confirm her with such a strong, bipartisan support.”
“The general counsel at USDA must be someone who can be relied upon by Congress and the agriculture community to provide sound, practical, and candid legal guidance to the department. I am confident that Janie Hipp will excel in that regard, and I am encouraged by Ms. Hipp’s commitment to transparency and open communication with Congress when she is at the Department. I am also pleased that the Senate moved to confirm her in a timely, bipartisan manner. It will be a welcome sight to have a fellow Razorback serving in a leadership capacity at USDA,” said Ranking Member Boozman.
The Senate Agriculture Committee held a hearing on Ms. Hipp’s nomination on May 27, 2021 and voted to advance her out of the Committee with bipartisan support.
