Chairwoman Stabenow Reminds Former MF Global Customers to File Claim Forms by Jan 31

Senator Debbie Stabenow, Chairwoman of the U.S. Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry, today reminded former MF Global customers who were affected by the firm’s collapse last year, that the deadline for filing claim forms is January 31, 2012. The bankruptcy of MF Global, the 8th largest in U.S. history, left thousands of farmers, ranchers and other small businesses devastated by an estimated $1.2 billion in missing customer funds. Since the firm’s collapse, Chairwoman Stabenow has been leading an effort to recover the missing customer funds and strengthen protections to restore confidence in the market.

“As Chair of the Senate Agriculture Committee, I led two hearings on the MF Global collapse at the end of last year. Since then, I have been getting regular updates from the trustee and the appropriate regulatory agencies who continue their investigation,” Chairwoman Stabenow said. “The safety and security of the commodities markets is essential for our economy and the continued strength of American agriculture. The top priority for me is helping customers get their money back, and making sure customers can have confidence in the integrity of the markets going forward.”

Chairwoman Stabenow reminded customers, including those who have already received some of their money back, to file a claim by the deadline – if a claim is not filed, it is possible that customers may lose out on money owed to them.
