WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Debbie Stabenow, Ranking Member of the U.S. Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry, was appointed to the joint Senate-House conference committee to finalize the Budget Resolution. Stabenow is a senior member of the Senate Committee on the Budget.
“With American agriculture supporting nearly 16 million jobs, it’s imperative that this budget not undermine the economic certainty that a five year Farm Bill provides farmers and families across the country,” Ranking Member Debbie Stabenow said. “That’s why I will continue to fight – alongside nearly 400 farm, conservation, and nutrition groups – against further cuts to Farm Bill programs in this budget conference. This budget should recognize the successful bipartisan effort that cut billions of dollars with reforms in the 2014 Farm Bill, substantially more than required by sequestration. Agriculture has already done its part to balance the federal budget. Any attempts to reopen any part of the Farm Bill to more cuts would be a major set-back for rural America and our efforts to create jobs.”
