WASHINGTON—U.S. Senator John Boozman (R-AR), ranking member of the Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry, issued the following statement about the Transitional Standards for Milk, Whole Grains and Sodium rule announced by United States Department of Agriculture (USDA).
“The nutrition professionals in our schools do an incredible job, but even in a perfect world scenario they often struggle to get students to eat meals based off these restrictive standards. Now consider the immense supply chain struggles that schools currently face and consider how this rule will dramatically increase those challenges. The bottom line is it’s the wrong time to try to force schools to comply with stricter nutrition standards. USDA needs to understand the real-world impact this decision has on our schools and administer any changes in a fair manner.”
