WASHINGTON—U.S. Senator John Boozman (R-AR), ranking member of the Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry, issued the following statement after a panel ruled that Canada has been unfairly restricting access to its market for U.S. dairy products in violation of the U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA).
“Given a level playing field, U.S. producers can compete with anyone in the world. That is why settling disputes such as this one are vital to ensuring that our trade agreements are fair for all parties. In this instance, the panel found that was clearly not the case. American dairy farmers were being denied full access to the Canadian market, which ran counter to the spirit of USMCA. Now, as a result of this ruling, our producers will have greater access to the market, ensuring that more of the best quality products will be found in dairy cases across Canada.”
