WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator John Boozman, ranking member of the Senate Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry Committee, issued the following statement after the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) finalized its rule revising school meal standards.
“It is good to see the changes reflected in the final rule today. USDA’s proposed rule was far too extreme. I appreciate that the final rule incorporates the feedback from stakeholders, school nutrition professionals and my colleagues to more carefully balance nutrition, menu options and affordability. This final rule still presents challenges for schools to implement, and I will remain closely engaged in the process. It’s essential USDA listens to well-founded concerns from those who work every day to serve healthful, wholesome and appetizing meals to children.”
